Identification of Errors

Error #4. Pronunciation  of «B» instead of «V»

Why this error occurs? This is due to the influence of the mother tongue, in the Spanish alphabet, we find the two letters v and b. Although a few centuries ago both B and v were pronounced with two different sounds, nowadays these letters are pronounced as the same phoneme in the Spanish language, so Spanish speakers pronounce the Spanish b in all English words that are spelled with both B and V.

Instructions: Read each sentence aloud and underline the word that contains the sound indicated below. There may be more than one correct answer.

Find: /b/

1. My friend brought home a little lamb.

2. The plumber came to repair the sink in our bathroom.

3. He went on holiday for about six weeks.

Find: /v/

1. I'm hoping for better weather tomorrow so we can visit our grandparents.

2. There was a massive earthquake in San Francisco.

3. Can you please record our song and later upload the video on YouTube?

Exercise #2: Tongue twister with B and V
